The Future of Learning…

The following is an excerpt from the Principal’s Report to the Membership as found in the Membership Package. As an aside, if you are interested in becoming a member at the school and/or just learning more about it, please contact us.

Here are a few thoughts on the future of learning and how LDCSS is set up to be a part of and perhaps even lead in this space:

As we look forward to another 50 years of Christian education in the greater London area, we anticipate all of the great things that God has in store for our school. There are several trends in the wider educational world that we are aware of and that will no doubt inform how LDCSS is shaped in due course. What is interesting is that these sorts of issues are being widely recognized in the secular education world, but they are also biblical principles:

  • The future of education is increasingly oriented towards personalizing learning for each individual student. As a smaller school, LDCSS is well-positioned to lead in this educational trend. This can be accomplished in a number of different ways, but seeing increases in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) leads us to wonder if at some point everyone will have one.
  • There is a large shift at all levels of education, Kindergarten right through to University, to provide more opportunities to marry theory with practice. Again, LDCSS is well-positioned to lead in this shift via things like our strong arts programs, our new shop and our service-oriented activities to name just a few.
  • The future of schooling is focused on developing the ‘whole’ person. Even in secular institutions there is a growing realization that people are highly complex and that the learning process for each person is incredibly unique. As a Christian school, LDCSS inherently recognizes and celebrates the God-given uniqueness of our students, which makes a real difference in each student.

We, as a staff, have already started thinking through what these might look like in our own school context and perhaps you have ideas as well. We would love to hear from you!
