We are only a week into the 2018-19 school year, but we know that for our Grade 12 students, this is a big year of decision making, discerning what God is calling them to do after high school, and where He is leading them to do that! These are life changing decisions which require a great deal of prayer, discernment, and research.

Part of that research process involves looking into different options for post-secondary education.  College? Apprenticeship? University? Work? For students exploring the College or University route, there are two events coming up in the next few weeks that will provide valuable resources.

The Ontario University Fair will be held in Toronto on September 28-30, from 10-5 daily at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. All 21 Ontario universities will be together under one roof, with representatives to answer questions and provide information.

The Ontario Colleges Information Fair runs on Tuesday October 23 from 5-9 and Wednesday October 24 from 9-2 at the Enercare Centre in Toronto. There will be 26 colleges present at this event.

We believe that these two events are exciting opportunities for our students to do some valuable research as they explore post-secondary opportunities.  We believe that it is important for our Grade 11 students to start thinking about these things as well. With that in mind, we are planning to send a bus from London Christian High to both events for Grade 11 and 12  students and parents who wish to go to one or both of these events. Here is what you need to know!

  1. Ontario Universities Fair–Friday September 28, 2018
  • Classes will be cancelled for all Grade 11 and 12 students for the day on Friday September 28, 2018. Students are not required to attend the OUF, but are certainly encouraged to do so.
  • Students will travel to school on their regular bus in the morning.  The bus to Toronto will depart London Christian High at 9AM.
  • The bus will leave from Toronto at 2:30 PM, and students will need to make alternate arrangements to get home after they arrive back at London Christian High.
  • Parents are welcome to join their students.  In fact, we encourage this!
  • Students must sign up for (a) seat(s) on the bus. Once the bus is full, we will start a waiting list.  If there is enough demand for a second bus, we will consider sending 2 buses to Toronto.
  • Students and parents also have the option to travel to Toronto independently of the school to add more flexibility around time.

2.  Ontario Colleges Information Fair–Wednesday October 24, 2018

  • Depending on student interest, classes may or may not be cancelled for the day.  That decision will be made around Monday October 15. Students are not required to attend the OCIP, but are encouraged to do so.
  • Due to the shorter schedule for the OCIP, a bus will be leaving London Christian High at 8:00 AM, and will leave Toronto at 2PM.  Students will not be back in time for afternoon buses, and will need to make arrangements to get to London Christian High in the morning and home from London evening.
  • Parents are welcome to join their children on the bus.

There is a trade-off to this decision to send buses to Toronto and cancel classes for one and possibly two days. Visits to London Christian High from individual Ontario Colleges and Universities, which have typically been scheduled throughout September and October, will no longer occur.  For this reason, we strongly recommend that students take the opportunity to go to the two events above to explore their options at post-secondary institutions in Ontario.

We have not yet found a similar opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing an apprenticeship program.  Stay tuned as we continue to seek resources to support these students!

Representatives from Christian Colleges and Universities in Canada and the US will continue to visit us at London Christian High to hold lunch-hour sessions for interested students. Dates will be made available as they become known.
